Do What You Are Doing

As moms, we are inherently multi-taskers. Raise your hand if you've ever nursed/bottle-fed an infant while making lunch for a toddler. Life happens and we sometimes have to do a few things at once to get it all done. But being in the moment and doing one thing at a time reduces stress and actually makes you more productive.

I'm a list-maker. I find that making lists clears my mind so I can focus on what I'm doing and not worry about forgetting something else. I have one for work and one for home. It's best to have one main list and not post-its and scraps of paper floating everywhere. Prioritizing the list is essential. I usually do this by highlighting the urgent things so they visually stand out. I just learned about The Eisenhower Matrix which is a simple way to prioritize a list.

Simply break your list into the following sections:

Do First: These are urgent tasks to be done ASAP.

Do Later: These tasks can wait a while, but schedule a time to do them.

Delegate: These tasks can be done by someone else.

Eliminate: These are not important and can be crossed off the list.

By doing one task at a time, we can be more mindful of what we are doing, why we are doing it and be more productive in the end. Give your brain time to settle down and reboot by adding some down time to your list. This could be going for a  short walk or taking your kids to the park...leave your cell phone at home or turn it off so you can focus on your kids or simply enjoy the outdoors.  Don't worry, the list will be waiting for you when you're ready.

XO,

Gina
