Winging It and Winning It in the New Year as a Mom: Strategies for Prioritizing Movement, Hydration, Mental Health, and Self-Care

Hey there, mom culture community mamas!

As we embark on a new year and a new chapter in our lives, it's important to remember to prioritize our own well-being and self-care. As mothers, we often put the needs of our families before our own, but in order to be the best versions of ourselves for our loved ones, we need to make sure we are taking care of ourselves first. And let's be real, sometimes that means winging it and still managing to win at motherhood.

With that in mind, here are some practical tips for surviving (and thriving) in the new year as a mom:

  • Move more:

It's easy to get caught up in the daily grind and neglect our physical health, but regular movement is crucial for both our physical and mental well-being. Think of "move with motherhood" as a metaphor for motherhood - it's not always easy, but it's worth it. Plus, it's a great way to burn off all that mom guilt and stress. Set a goal to get moving every day, whether it's through a structured workout or a simple walk around the neighborhood. Find a physical activity that you enjoy, and make it a regular part of your routine. I'm all about my peloton it's been my sanity saver since May 2022.
  • Stay hydrated:

Proper hydration is essential for our overall health and can significantly impact our energy levels, mood, and cognitive function. Plus, it's an easy win for any mom looking to score some extra points. Aim for at least 8 cups of water daily, and more if you are exercising or breastfeeding. Carry an "emotional support" water bottle with you wherever you go to make it easier to stay hydrated (and sane) on the go. You can even use our sticker pack to decorate your fave!
  • Take care of your mental health:

Being a mom can sometimes be overwhelming, and it's essential to make time for self-care activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul. Practice mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation, to help reduce stress and improve your overall well-being. If you are struggling with your mental health, don't be afraid to seek support through therapy, support groups, or talking to friends and family. It's not a sign of weakness to ask for help, it's a sign of strength.
  • Embrace self-care:

Self-care looks different for everyone, so find what works best for you and make it a regular part of your routine. This can be as simple as taking a warm bath, getting a massage, or something more structured like setting aside a specific day or time each week for self-care. Remember to prioritize self-care in your daily routine as well. A little bit of self-care can go a long way in helping you feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle whatever motherhood throws your way. My personal self-care is treating myself to a yummy homemade coffee and blasting some hype music the hour before I head to carpool it's a quick and easy way I show myself some love.

I wish you a happy and healthy new year! By focusing on these critical areas, you can kickstart your new year as a mom and set yourself up for success. Remember to be kind to yourself, and don't be afraid to ask for help when needed, mama.
