Prioritizing Self-Care: Realistic and Obtainable Ways for Busy Moms

Hey Mama Community!

As a fellow mom, I know how challenging it can be to prioritize self-care in our busy lives. However, caring for ourselves is crucial for physical and mental well-being. Here are 10 realistic and obtainable ways to boost your mood and prioritize self-care:

  • Get moving: Exercise can be a great stress reliever. Try to schedule regular workout sessions, go for a walk or run, or do a yoga or Pilates class. I ride my peloton 3-4 days a week for self-care and stress.
  • Take a hot bath: A relaxing bath can help you unwind after a long day. Add some Epsom salt or essential oils to promote relaxation.  This is one of my personal go-to using Dr. Teals and my fave podcast.
  • Practice gratitude: Taking a moment each day to think about what you're thankful for can help shift your mindset to a more positive place. Flip that switch is a go-to of mine. It can help to change your mood on the worst of days.
  • Connect with others: Schedule a coffee date with a friend or join a mom's group to combat feelings of isolation.  Even a quick facetime with your mama bestie is good for the soul.
  • Treat yourself: Whether it's a bubble bath, a new book, or a favorite treat, give yourself something to look forward to. I often grab a treat when I pump gas before heading to the carline, something sweet just for me that I don't have to share with the kids.
  • Unplug from technology: Taking a break from social media and screens can be incredibly refreshing. This is a MUST!!!!
  • Practice mindfulness: Take a few minutes daily to meditate, journal, or breathe deeply. Head outside for a good dose of vitamin D. It's always a quick mind reset.

  • Schedule "me time": Block out time in your calendar each week for something you enjoy, like reading, painting, or taking a walk.  This can fall in line with working out too!
  • Get enough sleep: Prioritize a good night's rest to help you feel refreshed and ready for the day. Ok, this one is hard AF, but it's worth trying. We all need MORE sleep!

Remember, you don't have to do it all at once. Start with what feels realistic for you and build from there. Self-care can be simple and easy. Don't overcomplicate it. Your mental and physical health is worth it!

Love,

Sarah
